Leslie August Leslie August
Leslie Levy August has more than 25 years of experience in global trade facilitation with a specialty in temporary exports. She is a co-owner of Corporation for International Business, also known as boomerang carnets, which provides over 7000 temporary export documents covering goods valued at $2.35B, to U.S. companies exhibiting and selling overseas, annually.

 

Ted Galantowicz Ted Galantowicz
Ted Galantowicz has served on the faculty of Global Trade Academy for over four years. He is the Executive Director of T - Comp LLC, a firm that specializes in assisting companies with their import and export trade compliance. Ted is a licensed customs broker who served as director of the St. Louis Customs District for thirteen years during his thirty year Customs career. That career also included five years of service on the staff of the World Customs Organization (previously known as the Customs Cooperation Council). After leaving Customs, he held positions with Emerson Electric Co., Laird Technologies LLC, and Eaton Bussmann LLC as Global Trade Compliance Manager. Ted is also the founder and first Managing Director of the Saint Louis Trade Compliance Practitioners Roundtable, an association that provides a forum for networking, best practices and for providing the latest information on trade compliance issues to its more than 50 members. Ted completed his MBA studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

 

Robin Grover, Esq. Robin W. Grover, Esq.

Robin is an international trade lawyer with over 32 years experience handling all aspects of export-import issues. Robin is a member of the U.S. Court of International Trade and has represented clients before Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security (formerly the Bureau of Export Administration), Office of Foreign Assets Control, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. International Trade Commission and the Census Bureau.

Robin is also a consultant with Amber Road’s Trade Advisory Practice and is a licensed Customs broker.

 
Laura Heyburn Laura Heyburn

Laura Heyburn is Manager of Trade Compliance for Firmenich, a privately held flavor & fragrance manufacturer. She has been with Firmenich for seventeen years and is responsible for Customs compliance. Laura provides onsite compliance training at the company’s five North American locations, and is involved in the implementation of a corporate-wide global compliance program.

Laura has a B.S. in Finance from Rutgers University. She is a licensed Customs broker and a past secretary of the NAFTZ User Committee. She is also the Chair of the Import/Export Committee for the Fragrance Materials Association (IFRA).

 
Douglas Jacobson, Esq. Douglas Jacobson, Esq.

Doug Jacobson has more than 23 years of experience representing U.S. and non-U.S. companies on a wide range of international trade-related issues. He serves as principal outside international trade counsel to a number of U.S. and non U.S.-based multinational companies that import, export and produce a wide range of products, including oil and gas equipment, medical devices, electronic products, industrial, defense and aerospace products.

He is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Diana Jansson-Hamilton Diana Jansson-Hamilton

Diana Hamilton is a highly experienced global trade compliance and security executive. Her background is in leading multiple groups globally in import/export logistics and security compliance initiatives. She is a licensed U.S. Customs Broker with a blend of skills and experiences to assess market and business opportunities for global trade compliance and security improvements around the globe.

As a bilingual (English/Spanish) speaker-trainer of Global Trade subjects, Diana’s effective communication skills allow her to educate and influence others in their awareness and understanding of the overall impact of global trade and security compliance.  Diana has a Masters Degree in Business Ethics and Compliance, she owned an international consulting group called “International Shipping Consultants” which is now re-named “GTC-Expert” and has worked as the Director of Global Trade Compliance for Dole Food Company (Westlake Village, CA) for nearly thirteen years.

Marian E. Ladner, Esq. Marian E. Ladner, Esq.

The Managing Partner of the law firm of Ladner & Associates PC, Marian primarily centers her practice on Regulatory Compliance with import, export and FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) requirements.

Ms. Ladner helps companies create and streamline strategic sourcing and supply-chain operations, with an emphasis towards minimizing duties through participation in government preference programs, such as NAFTA, FTZs, CBI, GSP, and AGOA. Her practice also specializes in assisting multinational companies build, test, and sustain global import, export and FCPA compliance programs.

 
Shawn Mahoney Shawn Mahoney

Shawn Mahoney serves on the faculty of Global Trade Academy and is also the Managing Director of EP Consulting Group. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he has over twenty years' experience in the business and culture of China.

Shawn specializes in China trade compliance, business training, and new business development. Shawn earned a B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an M.A. in International Affairs from Washington University in Saint Louis.

 
Renata E. Pearson Renata E. Pearson
Renata E. Pearson is President of Customs Compliance Regulatory Affairs (CCRA), a global logistics and international supply chain company based in the San Francisco Bay area with an international reach. She has served on the board of directors of the NCBFAA (National Customs Brokers Forwarders Association of America) and is also a licensed Customs broker.
 
Suzanne M. Richer Suzanne M. Richer

Suzanne M. Richer joined Amber Road in 2015 to lead the development of a Trade Advisory Practice. She is a licensed customs broker and Certified Classification Specialist™ (CCLS™). Ms. Richer has extensive experience in advising corporations on Focused Assessments, C-TPAT cargo security applications and validations, and the Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) program.

Prior to joining Amber Road, Ms. Richer established Customs & Trade Solutions, Inc. During her eighteen years as a trade advisor, she led C-TPAT validations all over the world, and guided many firms into the coveted Tier 3 status of the program.

Ms. Richer regularly lectures in the U.S. and internationally on global trade, including Classification, NAFTA, Incoterms, Export Controls, Import Compliance Issues, FCPA and C-TPAT. She has conducted over 4000 hours of training, including training for the National Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association, Footwear Association, CSCMP New York and Paris Roundtables, Mid-West Importers Trade Association, and the Federal Maritime Commission.

She serves on the Board at Baruch College for their international educational programs, and is the President of the CSCMP – New York Roundtable. Ms. Richer recently completed working on the National Program Committee of CSCMP and now conducts training in the U.S. and overseas for the Global Trade Academy.

Ms. Richer earned her Master's degree in Economics from Eastern Michigan University and her Bachelors of Economics from the University of Michigan. She has studied language courses at the University of Strasbourg, France and Osaka, Japan. Her articles on international trade topics appear in the Shipping Digest, Supply Chain Management magazine and Logistics Management, and she has authored four books on international trade topics.

 
Dr. Jennifer Saak, Ph,D Dr. Jennifer Saak, Ph.D.

Dr. Saak is the Managing Director of Traliance, a firm she founded that provides export control services for technology and research organizations in the public and private sector. Her expertise is in the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) with a focus on commodity and technology classification, deemed exports, technology control plans, and export compliance management programs. Dr. Saak has 17 years of experience in managing global export controls regulations for the materials and chemical industry, materials research and development, and leading global cross-functional teams. She has a proven record of implementing a sustainable export compliance program in a multi-national Fortune 500 company with engineering sites in the United States, Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Dr. Saak also worked as a research engineer with General Electric (GE), developing innovative polymeric and ceramic materials for a variety of industrial and consumer applications.

Dr. Saak has seven U.S. and international patents, six technical publications in peer-reviewed journals and multiple management and innovation awards. Dr. Saak has a Ph.D. in materials engineering from Northwestern University and a B.S. in materials engineering from Cornell University. Dr. Saak is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt with a focus on business process improvements.

Dr. Robert Schwartz Dr. Robert Schwartz

Dr. Schwartz is President and CEO of MyIslandBeach LLC, an organization that licenses an application for automatically assigning Harmonized Tariff Schedule Classifications to organic molecules for importation into the US and EU. Prior to MyIslandBeach, Dr. Schwartz worked at Merck for 27 years and contributed to the discovery of the life-saving antifungal agent Cancidastm, for which he shared the Heroes of Chemistry award in 2006. Dr. Schwartz was also in charge of the Merck’s Compound Collection for several years.

Dr. Schwartz received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Bradley University in Biology and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Hawaii researching deep-water corals acquired via mini-submersible.

Danielle Steward Danielle Steward

Danielle Steward is a classification specialist with Amber Road’s Global Trade Academy. She served as a primary researcher on the team for the Global Trade Academy’s Certified Classification Specialist Course (CCLS).

She holds a degree from The College of New Jersey.

 

Brenda L. Sweetman Brenda L. Sweetman

Brenda L. Sweetman is a Vice President of C.J. Holt & Co., Inc. Brenda started her career with Holt’s parent company managing drawback programs for companies in a wide variety of industries. She has conducted compliance assessment reviews and on-site training for importers and duty drawback claimants around the country.

Brenda has presented seminars and webinars on drawback for many years and many organizations. She joined Global Trade Academy as an instructor in 2010. Brenda holds a BA and a M.Ed. in Education and is both a licensed Customhouse broker and Certified Customs Specialist. She is an active member of the American Association of Exporters and Imports (AAEI) and the International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA).

John P. Mattson John P. Mattson

John received his U. S. Customs Broker license in 1975 and has over 45 years of experience in import procedures and compliance. John established Customs Broker operations in the ports of Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis and Seattle. During his career, John worked as a national Import Manager, Vice President and Corporate Secretary, Instructor, and Technical Services Administrator for major U. S. Customs Brokers.

John has taught courses in import regulations, documentation, compliance, and HTSUS classification. He has assisted many students prepare for and pass the customs broker exam—an exam with an average pass rate less than 15%. John also served on the initial Educational Committee for the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America, Inc.

John is currently the owner of John P. Mattson, LCB, providing U. S. Customs clearance and consulting services in U. S. Harmonized Tariff Classification and import regulatory requirements.

Edward Siecienski, DBA Edward Siecienski, DBA

Dr. Siecienski retired from Lucent Technologies (AT&T) after a career spanning 33 years. During that time, he served as Director of International Quality for AT&T, overseeing operations in Europe and Asia. During the last eight years of his corporate experience he served as Director of Logistics. He currently splits his time between consulting, serving as Executive Director of JMA Supply Chain Management and as an Adjunct Professor at The College of New Jersey, teaching Supply Chain Management, Operations Management and International Marketing.

He is a founding member of the Global Supply Chain Forum at Ohio State University and acted as an instructor at a number of its Executive Seminars. Dr. Siecienski co-authored the Supply Chain Management chapter in The Handbook of Industrial Engineering. He has made presentations at four Annual Conferences of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.

Dr. Siecienski holds a Certificate in Manufacturing Management from the American Management Association. He has attended several Executive Development programs: Strategic Marketing Management at Harvard, the European Marketing Program at The European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD), and Engineering Economics at Stanford University. He holds several degrees; Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Management Science and a Doctorate in Global Business Leadership.

Peter Quinter, Esq. Peter Quinter, Esq.

Peter is a shareholder at GrayRobinson and is Chair of the Customs & International Trade Law Group. Peter principally represents individuals and companies involved in international trade and transportation, including litigation in the federal courts located in Florida and the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York. Board-certified in international law, Peter was appointed by the Florida Bar to the International Law Certification Committee.

Peter has been recognized for his experience and leadership in several peer review and other ratings. Florida Trend magazine recognized him among its “Legal Elite” in the area of international law. This designation was based on a poll of Florida attorneys, who selected peers in the top two percent of their respective practice areas. The U.S. secretary of commerce appointed Peter to the Florida District Export Council because of his knowledge of and experience in international trade, and he was rated “superb” by Avvo Ratings, an online listing that rates and profiles attorneys. The rating is based on a mathematical model that considers the information in a lawyer’s profile, including years in practice, disciplinary history, professional achievements and industry recognition. Florida Super Lawyers magazine included him in the top 5 percent in Florida, and he was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of FDA law.

Peter served as legal counsel at the Southeast Regional Headquarters of the U.S. Customs Service (now known as U.S. Customs and Border Protection) in Miami, Florida. Responsibilities included providing legal advice and representation to management of Customs on all matters involving the administration and enforcement of the customs and international trade laws. He provided legal advice on virtually all activities of Customs undertaken by its enforcement, commercial operations, fines, penalties and forfeitures, and regulatory audit personnel. Peter provided assistance to the U.S. Department of Justice in civil and criminal prosecutions on a variety of customs violations, including commercial fraud, trade embargoes and export controls.
